There is a small car park along the <strong>SP638 road<\/strong> between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.d4u.house\/blog\/en\/cortina-ski-holidays\/\">Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo<\/a> and <strong>Passo Giau<\/strong> where you can leave your vehicle. From here, follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikiloc.com\/hiking-trails\/croda-da-lago-lago-di-federa-track-437-434-25768444\">Trail 437<\/a>, which is a well-marked path. This trail goes through forested areas, and as the trees clear, it reveals views of the surrounding Dolomites.<\/p><p>After walking for about 45 minutes, you\u2019ll reach a clearing at <strong>Cason de Formin<\/strong> where the forest opens up and the first mountain views appear. At this point, turn right onto <strong>Trail 434<\/strong>, a route that takes you directly to the iconic <strong>Lago Federa<\/strong>. This impressive lake is located approximately 2,038 m above sea level.<\/p><p>This part of the trail is relatively easy. It has a total elevation gain of about 400\u2013500 meters and a hiking time of roughly 1.5 to 2 hours one way. Along the way, you will come across wooden footbridges to cross streams, and there are a few benches to relax on. It offers a full-day circular trek around the lake and mountain ridges. This clockwise circuit begins and ends at <strong>Ponte de Ru Curto. <\/strong>It covers\u00a0approximately 12.5 to 13.5 km, with an elevation gain and loss of 800 to 900 meters. On average, the hike takes between 5 and 6 hours, depending on pace and weather conditions.<\/p><p>The trail begins by ascending through forested slopes on <strong>Trail 437. <\/strong>Eventually you will reach <strong>Lago Federa<\/strong> and the <em>Rifugio Croda da Lago\u2013Gianni Palmieri<\/em>. From the rifugio, the path climbs toward <strong>Forcella Ambrizzola<\/strong> (2,277 m). It&#8217;s a wide saddle that has amazing panoramic views of the <strong>Lago Federa basin<\/strong>, the <strong>Tofane range,<\/strong> and <strong>Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo<\/strong> below. Continuing on, the trail becomes more rugged as it ascends to <strong>Forcella de Formin<\/strong> (2,460 m), the highest point of the circuit.<\/p><p>After the saddle, the descent becomes much steeper and more technical. You will need to go through a boulder field, where sure-footedness and sturdy hiking boots are a must! Trekking poles are highly recommended for balance and support, especially for loose gravel sections.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.d4u.house\/blog\/en\/summer-dolomites\/\">Summer<\/a> is usually the best time for taking this route.
